About
The Association for Responsive Trusteeship in Calgary Schools (ARTICS) is a group of citizens who are concerned about the governance of public education in our city. In the 2010 municipal election, many people expressed their frustration with the lack of communication from existing trustees and the Calgary Board of Education. They felt as if decisions were always being made at higher levels and that they did not have a voice in the education system. We want to work together with trustees in order to raise the responsiveness of our trustees to the level which is expected by parents, teachers and other stakeholders.
Our initial efforts have focused on providing more information to the public about school board issues of interest. We have also attended Calgary Board of Education public board meetings with a view to reporting about questions individual trustees are asking administration and their statements during debate which explain their resulting vote. These items are not available through the meeting minutes.
